“My coach told me that i would never make it at the top level”- Patrick Schick
Amongst the buzz of Haaland, it is quite easy to miss the fact that there is a striker who has scored more than Haaland in Bundesliga this season. Patrick Schick has scored 18 goals from 16 appearences this season, which is a goal every 71 minutes. Going just by goal scoring records would be a big mistake, specially considering what has happened to Timo Werner and Luka Jovic in the recent past. So, let us look at the strengths and weaknesses of Patrik Schick and examine whether he would be a good fit for City or not.
Standing at a height of 191 cm, it is quite obvious that aerial duels are one of his biggest strengths, but in a Pep system, it is not an important asset at all. For me, finishing stands out as one of his most strongest assets. He is as ruthless a finisher as you will see in world football at the moment.
One of the most exciting aspect for me is his style of play. He likes to do layoffs and flick ons. This for me suits City perfectly. A player who likes do flick ons, suggests to me that he likes to get on with the play fast and not slow down moves like we have seen a Grealish do quite often this season. Also, he loves to play short passes and play an integral role in the build up of play from deep.
Defensive contribution is said to be one of his most glaring weaknesses. But i think that Pep could work on it and transform him in that aspect. Also, he loves to play short passes, but his passing can sometimes show up as his weakness. It is not a big weakness, but his passing is certainly not on the level of some of the City players.
Patrik Schick for me represents a player whose playing style and most importantly attitude is very close to what pep looks for in his Striker. He might be the most astute peice of business we might ever do, when everybody else is focussing on the buzz of Haaland and Mbappe
